Introducing "Ideas to Make ○○ More Interesting" from young art directors at Dentsu Inc. This time, Kumiko Ota presents "Making 'Please Be Quiet...' Interesting."
Turning Negatives into Positives with Ideas
──Why did you choose the theme "Please be quiet..."?
Ota: It's a theme based on personal experience. When you're focused on work, the sound of someone else's keyboard tapping can be quite distracting, right? I often think, "They don't need to hit the keys that hard." It bothers me, but I can't really say anything. When I asked a few people about it, many said, "I know, I know," and really related to it. I wanted this theme to be something people could relate to, so I chose it. "Annoying things" or "giving warnings" aren't exactly positive, right? But I thought it would be great if we could convey it with humor as a project. I wondered if there are things that can only be communicated visually, not through words or text, so I gave it a try. It's not a practical design and it's not realistic, but I'd be happy if seeing this made people feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Golf broadens communication inside and outside the company
──What are you interested in right now?
Ota: I've recently gotten hooked on golf. Many of my university friends play, and wanting to join them was my starting point. It's outdoors, a great mood-changer, and unlike other sports, you play while communicating, so you bond quickly and gain acquaintances outside of work. Plus, there are hardly any female art directors who golf, so I get noticed. Even people I don't usually talk to at work strike up conversations with me. Since starting golf, my communication has expanded, and it's been really fun.
