In the "First McDonald's Election" held by McDonald's Japan starting early 2017, the "Double Cheese Burger" won first place, meaning its campaign "promise" would be implemented.
The election aimed to determine Japan's most popular burger through consumer voting from among the company's 12 regular burgers. The 12 burgers were divided into "Block A" (6 beef-based burgers) and "Block B" (6 non-beef burgers) for the first round (voting period: January 6-24). The Double Cheese Burger was selected as the Block A representative, while the Teriyaki Mac Burger was chosen for Block B. The winner was then decided in a final round (January 25-31) between these two burgers.
As a result, the "Double Cheese Burger" will fulfill its campaign promise: "Same price, triple the meat and cheese. From 'Double Cheese' to 'Triple Cheese'!" was realized with the sale of the "Triple Cheese Burger." Furthermore, to express gratitude for the excitement of the election, the company announced it would also fulfill the pledge of the runner-up, the "Teriyaki Mac Burger," simultaneously selling the "Double Teriyaki Mac Burger" with an extra pork patty. (Both burgers available for a limited time from February 1st to 7th).
Block A cheerleader captain Nobuhiko Takada declared victory: "The dream Triple Cheese Burger is finally here! Come get your 'Tri-Chee' while you can... Get your butts to the store!" Block B's Shoko Nakagawa commented: "Unexpected defeat... Giza sadness... But the Teriyaki Mac Burger promise is also fulfilled! Let's eat at the store!"
