McDonald's Launches "Grand" First Regular Menu Item in 8 Years
McDonald's Japan held a launch event for its new regular menu item, the "Grand," at Akasaka BLITZ in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on April 3.
"Grand" is the umbrella name for new burgers featuring "authentic thick-cut beef" and "fluffy buns," available starting the 5th. The lineup includes three varieties: the "Grand Clubhouse" featuring a juicy, 100% beef patty 1.7 times thicker than standard; the "Grand Bacon Cheese" combining two types of cheddar cheese with smoky bacon; and the "Grand Teriyaki" with a Japanese-style flavor coated in sweet and savory teriyaki sauce. Excluding the "Value Menu," this marks the first new regular-sized, authentic thick-cut beef burger in eight years.
CEO Sarah L. Casanova stated, "Our mission is to become a modern burger restaurant that connects with customers on a heartfelt level. We challenged ourselves to develop new burgers that suit Japanese tastes, and after much trial and error, we perfected the 'Grand'. We pursued flavors that Japanese customers would enjoy and want them to experience burgers sold exclusively in Japan."
Announcer Rio Hirai, who plays a field reporter in the news-style TV commercial "Breaking News" airing from the 4th, appeared on stage alongside Donald. Hirai expressed her excitement: "I'm a regular at McDonald's. I get thrilled every time a limited-time menu comes out. This time, it's a regular menu after eight years, and they're launching three varieties simultaneously – I just can't help but be excited!"
After tasting the Clubhouse, Hirai rated it 5.5 stars—exceeding the maximum score—in line with the "How Many Stars ★ Would You Give the Grand's Deliciousness?" campaign ( http://www.mcdonalds.co.jp/campaign/gran/cmp/ ) launching on the release date. He further praised its deliciousness, stating, "It has such an irresistible charm that you just want to eat it the moment you pick it up. When you actually eat it, it's so delicious you forget you're at an event, and it makes you feel truly happy."

McDonald's fans who had already tasted Gran also attended the presentation. A scene reminiscent of the commercial where Hirai descends into the audience for interviews unfolded. There too, many voices expressed "It was very delicious" and "I want to eat it again," with Hirai nodding contentedly.
