First Draw for New Lottery "Bingo 5" First Prize Amount: Approximately 8.6 Million Yen!

The first draw for the new number-selection lottery "Bingo 5" was held on April 5 at the Tokyo Lottery Dream Hall in Chuo Ward.

Bingo 5 is based on the bingo game. It features a grid of 9 squares arranged in 3 vertical and 3 horizontal rows. Players select numbers from the 8 squares excluding the center square. If one or more of the 8 lines (vertical, horizontal, or diagonal) match the drawn numbers, it's a win. The number of matching lines determines the prize tier from 1st to 7th place. The theoretical 1st prize amount is approximately 5.6 million yen. Sales began on the 3rd. A portion of the proceeds will support the "Rugby World Cup 2019," and the lottery tickets feature the tournament's official mark.

The venue buzzed with excitement as the first draw for the new lottery drew not only general attendees but also a large press corps and related personnel.

Prior to the draw, five of the six women selected as the 2017 "Goddess of Fortune" were introduced. The Goddess, who serves as a "bridge between luck and dreams," was established in 1980, making this year's selection the 38th generation. They were chosen from approximately 1,100 applicants through a public recruitment open to women aged 20 and over. The Goddesses assist at events held nationwide throughout the year and serve as assistants during the lottery draws.

On stage, the lottery commenced with the call, "Let's Bingo!" A specialized bingo lottery machine (an electric centrifugal lottery machine) was used. Eight balls, each marked with a corresponding number, were placed in the machine's compartments. Centrifugal force determined the winning numbers. The venue buzzed with excitement each time a number was announced, the murmurs growing louder as the process continued. The atmosphere was exactly like that of a bingo game at a party.

The first prize amount this time was approximately 8.6 million yen, significantly exceeding the theoretical value.

The Bingo 5 draw is held every Wednesday, generally at the same lottery Dream Hall.
