Dentsu Inc. Launches "Magaport Article Service," a New Service Automatically Converting and Distributing Magazine Article Data into Micro-Content
Dentsu Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Toshihiro Yamamoto) today launched the "Magaport Article Service" as a new feature within its electronic magazine business support system "Magaport" *1. This service automatically converts PDF data of magazine pages, originally designed for print , into micro-content*2 units of text and images, enabling distribution to corporate owned media, news sites, and e-bookstores. This service was made possible through the exclusive use of the "fujisan Article Extraction System," a micro-content generation and management system developed by Fujisan Magazine Service Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Shinichiro Nishino), a partner in operating "Magaport."
As false reporting by curated media has become a social issue, trust and expectations for fact-checked, responsibly edited articles from magazine publishers have grown. However, repurposing article data created for print media for use on news sites, apps, or corporate websites has been hindered by the significant effort and cost required to convert it into editable data.
In response to this situation, the "Magaport Article Service" incorporates the latest AI technology developed by Fujisan Magazine Service. This enables the automatic conversion of article data into data formats widely compatible with various electronic media. This development is expected to expand the magazine-originated content business.
Furthermore, for publishers already using "Magaport" to publish digital magazines, adding this service allows them to continue submitting PDF layouts as before. The service then automatically converts text, images, font sizes, colors, and layouts into micro-content, significantly reducing effort. As the multifaceted utilization of article data progresses, it is expected to lead to further revenue opportunities for publishers.
Moving forward, Dentsu Inc. and Fuji Magazine Service will continue advancing the utilization of this service. This includes developing advertising technology products based on article-level viewing data for targeted advertising, creating automated editing functions suitable for web distribution (such as summaries based on natural language processing), and providing new business services related to article search and recommendation.
※1 Dentsu Inc.'s Sub-Magazine Business Support System, which enables publishers to centrally manage magazine content submission, sales, and advertising for multiple e-bookstores.
This system is provided to approximately 150 domestic publishers and over 1,000 magazines, making it one of the largest systems of its kind in Japan.
※2 PDF data designed for printed magazines has a fixed layout, making further editing difficult and unsuitable for repurposing on websites or smartphone apps. Therefore, various data converted from PDF data into a highly versatile state—such as text and image units—is called "microcontent."
