As part of its "PROJECT TOEI" information dissemination initiative for metropolitan transportation, the Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation will collaborate with JTB Domestic Travel Planning to conduct the "Experience the Power of Hydrogen! Parent-Child Fuel Cell Bus Tour" on August 19, 20, and 26. This tour using fuel cell buses marks Japan's first attempt at a packaged tour of this kind.

Fuel cell vehicles generate electricity by reacting hydrogen and oxygen, making them considered the ultimate eco-friendly cars as they emit no greenhouse gases. The Bureau has contributed to technological development for market introduction through demonstration experiments in 2003 and 2015. Since 2017, it has introduced these buses developed and commercialized by Toyota Motor Corporation, operating them as route buses – the first commercial vehicles of their kind in Japan.
The Bureau plans to gradually expand the introduction of these buses going forward, aiming to contribute to the realization of a hydrogen society.
The tour includes a workshop at the Tokyo Suisomiru Hydrogen Information Center in Koto Ward to learn about hydrogen energy, along with an outdoor cooking experience using electricity generated by the bus. Participants will cook "Tokyo Curry with Tomato Sauce" using ingredients sourced in Tokyo. This menu was specially created for the tour by Japanese cuisine chef Rokuzaburo Dojo.
Tour applications are open from July 13 to 25, priced at ¥2,500 per person. Each tour accommodates 20 participants; if oversubscribed, selection will be by lottery. Applications are accepted via the dedicated website ( https://opt.jtb.co.jp/kokunai_opt/p/p1049483 ).
