"Mac" or "McDo"? With the deliciousness showdown settled, the homepage has turned into McDo!?

McDonald's Japan announced on August 21 that the "McDo Army" emerged victorious in its campaign "McDo or McDonald's? Taste Battle!" held to decide the company's "nickname" through a taste-off featuring burgers and special support menu items.

McDonald's is affectionately known by different nicknames depending on the region, such as "Mac" or "McDo." This inaugural campaign aimed to settle the long-standing "debate."

Divided into "Team Mac" and "Team McDonald," the two sides competed based on the taste of their respective limited-time burgers (Tokyo Roast Beef Burger and Osaka Beef Cutlet Burger). The winner was determined by the total number of tweets mentioning the product names and retweets on Twitter by the 20th of the same month. The final tally showed a narrow victory for "Team McDonald" with 51% to 49%.
To celebrate the victory, the company distributed a "Winning Sale! Coupon" via its official app and Twitter starting on the 22nd, offering the winning "McDo Army" burger at a discount. Furthermore, in response to the minority "McDo Army" emerging victorious, the company temporarily changed parts of its homepage to a "McDo-style" design until the 28th.
President Sarah Casanova's message screen features a title reading "A Message from McDonald's," while the body text uses Kansai dialect phrases like "There is, you know," "That's not it," "Totally," and "We're doing it." The closing line, "Alright, let's call it a day for today," also elicits a laugh.

Comedian Koji Imada, who served as second for Team McDonald's, commented: "Thanks to all the Amore supporters nationwide, we won! Use the 'Championship Sale! Coupon' to enjoy the Osaka Beef Cutlet Burger and Osaka Beef Cutlet Muffin." Actress Airi Taira, second for Team McDonald's, said: "I can't believe the stylish Tokyo Roast Beef Burger lost. It's so frustrating. I'll get my revenge someday. Team McDonald's is the best!"
