A conversation between Mansai Nomura and karate athlete Shimizu "ONE TEAM PROJECT" Phase 2 (Video available)

The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games announced the second installment of the "ONE TEAM PROJECT" on September 29, designed to energize the Tokyo 2020 Games.

This project involves renowned Japanese artists, writers, scholars, and film directors creating and sharing content related to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The content will be freely developed in various formats, including videos, articles, illustrations, and photographs.
The first installment featured a video of kabuki actor Ebizo Ichikawa delivering a pre-Games proclamation three years before the event.

The second installment is a dialogue video titled "KATA for TOKYO 2020" featuring Kyogen performer Mansai Nomura and karate athlete Kiyo Shimizu.
At the start of the video, Shimizu performs a powerful kata demonstration before Nomura. Impressed, Nomura asks Shimizu a series of questions, probing the essence of her art. They also explore the similarities and differences between kyogen and karate while each demonstrates their respective kata.
This dialogue between two individuals dedicated to mastering "kata" offers fascinating insights where the perspectives of a sport originating in Japan (Okinawa) and a traditional performing art intersect.
Nomura commented, "It was a very meaningful conversation. I hope people feel the appeal of karate, which has become an additional event at the Games." Shimizu added, "I learned a great deal from Mr. Nomura. As a member of ONE TEAM, I will redouble my efforts with renewed determination."
