Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. launched the "Everyone's Safety and Security Project" in May 2017 and has been promoting activities to spread awareness of its preventive safety feature "Smart Assist" (Sma-A). As part of this initiative, on December 1st, they released a web video titled "Safety and Security Driving School" featuring actor Issei Takahashi.
The video comes in two versions. The highlight is Takahashi, portraying a driving instructor at a driving school, showcasing two completely different charms: the "Gentle Instructor" version, where he provides kind driving guidance, and the "Tough Instructor" version, where he instructs with a blunt, harsh tone.
Highlights abound, such as the scene in the Gentle Instructor version where he gently supports a student's steering, or the scene in the Bossy Instructor version where he ends his harsh tone with a "Not bad!" compliment – moments that make you think, "I'd love to learn from an instructor like this."
On set, when the camera wasn't rolling, Takahashi could be seen offering instructor-like support from the passenger seat as the actress playing the student tried to maneuver the car back into position. This impressed not only the female staff but all the male staff members too, who couldn't help but sigh, "He's just too cool..."
Reflecting on filming, Takahashi stated, "Playing two contrasting roles creates a completely different atmosphere for each work. I hope viewers watch both and enjoy the distinct thrills and the gap between the two instructors." He also revealed experiencing Smart Assist firsthand before filming, adding, "Actually riding in it makes you realize what an amazing feature it is. I want as many people as possible to experience it."
