SoftBank held a press conference for its new services at Toranomon Hills in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on January 15.
The new services include the "Student Discount for Teachers" campaign, which targets not only students but also educators, and the "Smartphone Debut Discount," which adds the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus to the eligible device lineup.
Applications for both will be accepted starting the 17th.

Since September 2017, the company has promoted "stress-free" as a key business principle, launching services like "Ultra Giga Monster 50GB," "Family Discount," and "Half-Price Support."
Executive Vice President and COO Atsushi Shiba stated, "These services have gained widespread support." He explained that the new services are part of this strategy, built on two pillars: "stress-free with large data allowances" and "easy smartphone debut," aiming to further enhance customer satisfaction. "We want teachers to use the same environment as students," he added.
"Teacher Student Discount" is a service designed for both students and teachers who use large amounts of data to use without stress. Like the existing "Student Discount," it allows use of the 50GB "Ultra Giga Monster" plan. Note that "Teachers" eligible for this plan are those holding a Public School Mutual Aid Association membership card or a Private School Faculty Mutual Aid membership card.
Additionally, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been added to the eligible devices for the "Smartphone Debut Discount" (for first-time smartphone users aged 18 and under). The appeal lies in being able to use these popular models, released just last September, at an affordable rate starting from 1GB for 1,980 yen per month. This plan, timed for the student enrollment season, was prepared with the idea of "offering the latest models to students making their smartphone debut."

Who was your memorable teacher during your student days?
Attending the event were actor Ryohei Takeuchi, who stars in the new "Student Discount Teacher" TV commercial, along with Katsuhisa Namase as the vice principal, Mitsu Dan as the female teacher, and Jun Shison as the student. They appeared in the commercial's costumes, including white coats and blazers.

At the event, they discussed memories from their student days.
Takekawa, who played for Tokyo Verdy's youth team in the J.League during high school, attempted 50 ball juggles to match the 50GB theme. Despite wearing a suit and leather shoes—unsuitable attire for sports—he managed 38 juggles. Though he looked disappointed, the audience was captivated by his elegant ball control.
