The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has been conducting a mascot vote since December 11, 2017, where elementary school students nationwide vote as a class to decide the Games' mascot.
Voting requires pre-registration, and as of January 23, approximately 14,300 schools (including elementary schools, special needs schools, compulsory education schools, international schools, free schools, and Japanese schools overseas) have completed registration.
The Organizing Committee has now created newspaper advertisements about the voting and published them in the Asahi Shimbun and Mainichi Shimbun (January 31st edition) and the Yomiuri Shimbun (February 1st edition).
The full-color ad's catchphrase reads, "Dear elementary school students. Let's look at things from many different angles," featuring the final candidate mascots "A," "B," and "C" depicted from different angles.
Additionally, popular entertainer Matsuko Deluxe is featured as an extra "Option M".
However, a note stated: "[Option M] cannot be voted for."
The mascot vote closes on February 22. The results are eagerly awaited to see which design the elementary school students will choose.
