Morinaga Milk Industry 100th Anniversary Achieved a Guinness World Record for cake making!
Morinaga Milk Industry held its 100th anniversary project "Let's Challenge Together! Guinness World Record" at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward on March 28.

The Guinness World Record attempted was "Largest Dessert Decoration Lesson," where all challengers at the venue participated in a lesson to create the same dessert.
The previous record, set in the US in 2014, was 1,401 participants.

Approximately 2,000 participants, ranging from first-grade elementary students to an 83-year-old, gathered at the venue. They were selected from about 14,000 applicants. Around 200 employees from the company group also participated.
At the start, President Michio Miyahara stated, "We're delighted to have so many children participating today. This challenge commemorates our company's 100th anniversary in September 2017. Let's all enjoy the challenge together and achieve this record!"
Chef Hideo Yokota (owner of Oakwood Confectionery), who led the cake-making, greeted the participants: "When I heard the date, I thought of 'cherry blossoms' as the cake theme. Considering the preparation time, I'm deeply moved we've made it to today."
The name for the original cake designed by Chef Yokota was chosen from approximately 1,600 entries: "Let's Bloom Together: The Forest's 100-Year Cherry Blossom."

The challenge involved teams of four working together to create one cake. On stage, Chef Yokota demonstrated the cake-making process step-by-step, and the challengers followed his example to complete their decorations. After the cake-making, which included participation from President Miyahara, executives, and freelance announcer Yoshinaru Tsuji serving as MC, was successfully finished, numerous "100-Year Cherry Blossoms" were in full bloom on each table.

When the judging results announced a new world record of 2,095 participants, the venue erupted in cheers, followed by a toast with milk. The announcement that participants would receive personalized certificates of recognition filled the room with joyful voices. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed tasting the cakes at their leisure.
Tomoko Suzuki, who won the Grand Prix for cake naming, shared her thoughts: "I was nervous but had fun. When we achieved the record, I felt something well up inside me."

The venue featured exhibits commemorating the 100th anniversary, VR experiences, tasting and game corners, and photo spots, all entertaining the participants.
