Japan eSports Union (JeSU) appoints Dentsu Inc. as its dedicated marketing agency

Dentsu Inc. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toshihiro Yamamoto) has been appointed as the exclusive marketing agency for the Japan e-Sports Union (JeSU) (※1) (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Chairman: Hideki Okamura).

As its marketing partner, Dentsu will leverage its extensive expertise and know-how cultivated over many years in content and sports businesses. The company will contribute its full group capabilities to further develop esports in Japan, focusing on areas such as formulating marketing plans and sponsor sales.

As of today, KDDI Corporation, Suntory Holdings Limited, Lawson, Inc., Third Wave Co., Ltd., BEAMS Co., Ltd., and Indeed Japan K.K. have been confirmed as official sponsors of the Japan e-Sports Union.

<What is eSports?>
An abbreviation for electronic sports, it refers to competitive gaming viewed as a sporting event. It is a sport accessible to anyone regardless of physical characteristics or gender, enjoying immense popularity overseas, particularly among the younger millennial generation.

Currently, there are approximately 380 million esports fans worldwide, and this number is projected to grow by about 1.5 times over the next three years (※2).

At the "18th Asian Games 2018" held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from August 18 to September 2, 2018, eSports was featured as a demonstration sport. It has been announced that it will become a medal event at the next Asian Games, scheduled for Hangzhou, China, in 2022. Furthermore, with the potential for inclusion as an official event at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, momentum is building globally toward its Olympic recognition.
