Create ads that truly resonate with consumers! Submissions are now being accepted for the "JAA Advertising Awards."

The Japan Advertisers Association (JAA) has begun accepting entries for the 57th "JAA Advertising Awards: Consumer-Selected Advertising Contest" (sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry). The submission deadline is October 1. For contest guidelines, click here.

Eligible advertisements are those aired, displayed, or published between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018, across six categories: TV commercials, radio commercials, digital advertisements, outdoor/transportation advertisements, newspaper advertisements, and magazine advertisements.

Medalists will be selected from the outstanding entries in each category. From these, the JAA Grand Prix will be awarded to the best work in each category. Additionally, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award and the Best Partner Award will be presented.

A key feature of this advertising award is that the judging panel does not include advertising industry professionals. Instead, works submitted by advertisers, media companies, advertising agencies, and production companies—the entities that create the ads—are judged by general consumers. The first round of judging involves 100 consumers, while the Grand Prix and Medalist selections are judged by 20 consumers.

This year's theme is "Advertisements that resonate more deeply with consumers!" By recognizing outstanding advertisements from the consumer's perspective, the awards seek to explore communication methods suited to the times and contribute to the healthy development of advertising.

The judging criteria are threefold: whether the ad evokes favorability, empathy, and familiarity; whether it is easy to understand and convincing; and whether it conveys originality.

The Best Partner Award is presented to companies and individuals involved in creating the advertisements that win the JAA Grand Prix in each category.

The winners will be announced on January 15, 2019, with the awards ceremony scheduled for March 4 of the same year.
