The term "cast" embodies the hope that both those who work alongside athletes at venues and those who engage with spectators in the city will play a role in energizing the Games.
Organizing Committee Secretary General Toshiro Muto commented, "We will strive to roll out and embed the decided names in various contexts, starting with the orientation beginning February 9th. The power of volunteers is indispensable for the Games' success. We will continue preparations so everyone can develop affection and pride for these names."
The Organizing Committee received 204,680 applications (including those with visual or other impairments) for Games volunteers by the January 18 deadline.
The gender ratio was 36% male and 64% female. Nationality breakdown was 64% Japanese and 36% non-Japanese. Regarding desired activity duration, 10 days was the most common at 37%. Next was 11 to 19 days at 33%, and 30 days or more also reached 16%.
Approximately 37,000 people applied for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's urban volunteer program, which involves guiding spectators in city areas, with women making up about 60% of applicants.
Cast members will undergo orientation, common training, and venue-specific training before the Games begin.
