On July 11, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee opened the "Tokyo 2020 Official Shop Tokyo Skytree Store" within Tokyo Solamachi in Sumida Ward, selling official licensed merchandise. Starting the same day, it began selling new designs, including 18 types of "1 Year to Go!" commemorative products marking one year until the Games, totaling 445 items.
The "1 Year to Go!" merchandise, launched at the one-year countdown mark, aims to convey a message of momentum and excitement, encouraging people not only in Japan but around the world to embrace a positive outlook as we move forward toward the Games.
At the opening press conference held at the venue, Norihiko Hazama, General Manager of the Licensing Department at the Organizing Committee, stated: "Today marks 379 days until the Games. On July 24, we will reach the one-year countdown. The Sky Tree Store opening today is our 28th permanent store, and we plan to have 32 stores open by that date. "We recently opened the Tokyo Tower store as well, and it is deeply moving to have official shops established at Tokyo's two major landmarks." He added, "Starting today, we will be rolling out a series of countdown products featuring the '1 Year to Go!' logo and merchandise using the Games look design. We hope people will make use of these items to feel closer to the Games than ever before."
The Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic mascots, Miraitowa and Someity, along with illustrator Ryo Taniguchi, who designed both mascots, made a special appearance at the venue.
Regarding the mascots, who will soon celebrate their first anniversary since debut, Taniguchi shared his feelings as their creator: "I do feel a sense of them leaving my hands, but seeing them expand their activities is thrilling. I truly feel they have become characters loved by everyone."
Among the new products, he seemed particularly fond of the "Flutter Cheer Miraitowa." Picking it up, he smiled and remarked, "Cute! We haven't had moving products like this before, so it's fun. I think kids will love it."

Regarding the "Tournament Look Design Products," which derive from the core graphics featuring six harmonizing colors centered on red, indigo, cherry blossom pink, wisteria purple, and pine green, and incorporate design decorations also used at the competition venues, he showed off the T-shirt he was wearing and commented, "This is the one I'm wearing now. I like the beautiful, Japanese-inspired color palette," expressing his professional appreciation as a designer.
Finally, Taniguchi wrote "Let's make this a year full of excitement!!" on a signed card, expressing her desire to enjoy the time leading up to the opening.
