On October 17, the Hokuren Agricultural Cooperative Federation and the Hokkaido Rice Sales Expansion Committee held a presentation for the new Hokkaido rice harvest of Reiwa 1 (2019) at Tokyo Midtown Hall in Minato Ward.

Last year's Hokkaido rice crop was poor, with a crop index of 90 due to unfavorable weather conditions, but this year's crop is looking good thanks to favorable weather since early spring. At the beginning of the event, Kazuyuki Uchida, representative director and chairman of the federation, expressed his confidence, saying, "We will be able to deliver delicious Hokkaido rice that will satisfy everyone."
Hokkaido Governor Naomichi Suzuki also gave his stamp of approval to the new rice, stating, "We have harvested delicious rice that will meet your expectations. I am delighted that this new rice, a product of the producers' passion and hard work, can be delivered to people across the nation."

CM image character Matsuko Deluxe also rushed to the press conference. Expressing gratitude for being chosen for the seventh consecutive year since 2014, she appealed to the staff in her signature Matsuko style: "How long will I be chosen? You can replace me with a young actress anytime. I need to make way for the younger generation. But I'd be shocked if some old hag older than me was doing the new CM!"
Regarding the new variety "Gogumi" announced last year, Matsuko had previously given a harsh critique of its name: "The taste is delicious, but the name is awful." Hearing that sales have been strong a year later, she expressed relief: "I'm glad it's selling well. Getting criticized at first is actually a sign it'll be a hit."
She then tasted three types of freshly cooked new rice. After one bite of "Yumepirika," she raved, "It really is sweet. Truly sweet." She continued with "Nanatsuboshi," commenting, "This is the one to eat with side dishes. It's lighter than Yumepirika but has a soft sweetness."Regarding "Fukkurinko," she smiled and said, "Actually, I like this one too. It's like a cross between glutinous rice and regular rice. It has a slightly toasty flavor." What was meant to be a tasting session saw Matsuko's chopsticks moving nonstop, and she nearly finished the entire portion. Finally, she urged, "It really made me realize how much effort farmers put into growing this. Let's savor the preciousness of rice and eat it with gratitude."
The new TV commercial, "Yumepirika Returns," began airing nationwide on October 19th.
