The National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan (NACB) announced on November 14 that the Japan Consortium (JC), formed by NHK and the NACB, has reached an agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to secure the broadcasting rights for four Olympic Games: the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, the 2030 Winter Olympics, and the 2032 Olympics.
The total rights fee for the four Games is 97.5 billion yen. The rights cover all media in Japan, including television and radio broadcasts, as well as digital distribution via the internet and mobile platforms.
Yoshio Okubo, Chairman of the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan (NAB), commented: "Including its predecessor JP (Japan Pool), JC has delivered the splendor of the Games to viewers for many years—since the 1976 Montreal Summer Games and the 1998 Nagano Winter Games. While the environment surrounding media and sports has changed significantly, we are confident that JC, composed of NHK and commercial broadcasters, is the best way to bring the Olympics to the Japanese people."
The JC has already secured the broadcast rights for the Tokyo 2020 Games, as well as the 2022 Beijing Winter Games and the 2024 Paris Games.
