■Comment from Shizuoka City, winner of the 76th Dentsu Inc. Advertising Award Grand Prize in 2023:
(Naoya Ishikawa, Section Chief, Plastic Model Promotion Section, Industrial Promotion Division, Commerce and Industry Department, Economic Affairs Bureau, Shizuoka City)
The "Shizuoka City Plastic Model Project" continues to gain momentum
The "Shizuoka City Plastic Model Project: Redesigning a Traditional Local Industry into a Completely New Tourism Resource" won not only the Dentsu Inc. Grand Prize but also an Advertising Award. Winning the Advertising Award increased media coverage, making us realize how awards serve as PR. City staff awareness has improved, and I believe their mindset has changed. More collaborators and companies want to create and install monuments. When we applied for the award, I believe there were about 7 monuments. As of January 2025, 13 are installed, and we plan to have 15 by the end of this fiscal year.
This initiative is a system where the Shizuoka City administration supports the desire of companies and individuals to contribute to the local community and create "plastic model monuments." However, it doesn't end with just building the monuments. Utilizing these monuments is creating ripple effects: people are gathering in "Shizuoka, the Hobby City"; interest in manufacturing is growing; learning opportunities are emerging; talent development is beginning; and opportunities for creating new content are arising.
Two years have passed since winning the Dentsu Inc. Grand Prize, and I truly feel it was a great opportunity.
