Ad Age reports that FOX's broadcast of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Canada final set a record for the highest viewership in the history of U.S. soccer television broadcasts. According to Nielsen, the household rating was 15.2%, with 20.4 million viewers. This nearly doubled the 8.6% household rating for the 2011 Germany final and surpassed the previous U.S. soccer broadcast record of 13.3% (18 million viewers) set during the 1999 U.S. tournament, a record that had stood for 16 years.
FOX earned $26.8 million in advertising revenue throughout the tournament, with the final alone bringing in $2.3 million.
