Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new commercial for its curved UHD (Ultra High Definition) TVs, which it is focusing on as its next-generation television.
In the commercial, a parent and child watching TV in their living room suddenly find themselves transported to an ancient Roman-style colosseum. Surrounded by a vast crowd filling the arena, a gladiator battle unfolds right before their eyes.
Filmed in 4K, the commercial vividly captures everything from the expressions of the heated crowd to the texture of the stadium's stonework. Frank Lambertz of MPC, the VFX company behind the production, states, "It's a visual experience that breaks all previous concepts."
He anticipates 4K commercial filming becoming the new standard, emphasizing that "commercials are particularly effective in showrooms where product purchases are considered." Andy Howard of FrameStore, a major VFX studio handling 4K commercials, also predicts early adoption of 4K TVs, noting that streaming services like Netflix are actively distributing 4K content.
Samsung positions its curved UHD TVs as flagship products and launched a global campaign this month. According to Howard, the smallest 55-inch model costs around £2,000 (¥340,000). They remain significantly more expensive than HD TVs.
