US-based ★ Media Executives Gather in Sun Valley; Vigilance Against Spy Activities via Drones

Leaders of major media and digital companies gathered at the annual Sun Valley Media Conference recently held in Idaho. The media was strictly shut out and the participants were not disclosed, but this year's lineup included such illustrious CEOs as Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, Eric Schmidt of Google, Dick Costolo of Twitter, Jeff Weiner of LinkedIn, and Tim Armstrong of AOL.

Naturally, the area around the venue was under tight security, but a symbolic phenomenon of this year was the vigilance against aerial reconnaissance by small unmanned aircraft. Security staff were reportedly on high alert to prevent secret filming or disruption of the billionaires' meeting. Incidentally, Facebook, Amazon, and Google have all invested in small unmanned aircraft, known as drones in the United States.

Media attention is high because major announcements, such as corporate partnerships, often follow this annual conference hosted by U.S. investment firm Allen & Company. Last year, the acquisition of The Washington Post by CEO Bezos was announced after the meeting.
