The Helicobacter pylori depicted by Mr. Miyasako... Aflac "New Cancer Insurance Days for Living" New Campaign Announcement Event

Aflac (American Family Life Insurance) held a press conference for its new campaign, "New Cancer Insurance Days: For Living," on September 11 at Laforet Museum Roppongi in Minato Ward, Tokyo.

President Toru Sotooka mentioned that the company launched Japan's first cancer insurance in 1974 and that nearly one in four households now holds a policy. "To respond to the diversification of cancer treatments, we are launching a new insurance product," he stated in his address. "As the company managing the largest number of insurance policies in Japan, we will continue to focus on 'cancer insurance for living.'"

This insurance incorporates coverage for the three major cancer treatments—surgery, radiation therapy, and anticancer drug therapy—into all plans. It also expands outpatient coverage and strengthens coverage for advanced cancer treatments. Furthermore, it includes "Premium Support," which provides a home visit consultation service and specialist referrals upon a cancer diagnosis. Sales begin on September 22.

"First Duck" Edition

At the venue, the brand commercial "First Duck" and the new product commercial "Let's Talk About Cancer Insurance. Mr. Miyasako" were screened. The brand commercial features Duck the duck, singing about the history and evolution of cancer insurance while asserting, "Aflac is the cancer insurance expert."

Taking the stage were advertising character Sho Sakurai, who co-stars in the new product commercial, and comedian Hiroyuki Miyasako (from the comedy duo Ameagari Kesshitai), who has experienced stomach cancer. The commercial depicts the two on a bridge discussing Miyasako's cancer experience, his feelings at the time, and the importance of having cancer insurance.

During the talk session, Miyasako reflected on that time, humorously noting, "My wife was unusually kind," while revealing he had medical insurance but no cancer insurance, stressing its importance. Host Kazuo Tokumitsu posed cancer-related quizzes.

When asked to draw the shape of Helicobacter pylori bacteria, a cause of stomach cancer, Sakurai answered seriously. Miyasako, however, drew an illustration reminiscent of his comedy partner, Toru Hotaru, sparking laughter in the audience. Miyasako stated, "I want to convey that cancer insurance protects not just yourself, but your family too." Sakurai added, "I want to continue activities spreading awareness about the necessity of cancer insurance."

Aflac engages in social contribution activities not only through insurance sales but also in collaboration with its employees and associates (insurance sales agents). These include operating the "Aflac Parents House" to reduce the burden on children with serious illnesses like pediatric cancer and their families, and the "Aflac Kids Support System," which includes the "Aflac Scholarship Program for Childhood Cancer Survivors and Orphans of Cancer Victims" targeting high school students who are orphans of cancer victims or childhood cancer survivors.
