The first flight test prototype of the MRJ (Mitsubishi Regional Jet), Japan's first domestically produced small jet airliner developed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries and Mitsubishi Aircraft, was completed. On October 18, a rollout ceremony was held at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Komaki Minami Plant in Aichi Prefecture to unveil the aircraft to stakeholders.
This marks the first domestic passenger jet development in approximately 50 years since the propeller-driven YS-11 made its maiden flight in 1962.

The aircraft was developed for the 70-90 seat class market, aiming to differentiate itself from competitors through new technologies such as fuel-efficient engines, composite materials, and aerodynamics, providing new value to the environment, passengers, and airlines.
Approximately 500 guests attended the ceremony, including government officials such as Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Akihiro Nishimura, executives from domestic and international airlines, and suppliers. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Chairman Hideaki Omiya stated, "A world-class, Made-in-Japan product boasting the highest levels of economy and comfort is about to become a reality. We are proud to confidently deliver it to the world."

Amidst the powerful beat of Japanese taiko drums, the hangar doors opened to reveal the MRJ being towed onto the stage by a tractor. Its distinctive design features a streamlined shape and upward-swept wingtips, adorned with the aircraft's signature red, black, and gold color scheme.
ANA Holdings President Shinichiro Ito stated, "It is an honor for our company to be the first in the world to receive and operate the MRJ. As the launch customer, we will strive to make it an aircraft that is trusted and loved." The aircraft has currently secured orders for over 400 units from domestic and international airlines, including ANA and JAL.
Following various tests, the first flight is scheduled for 2015, with the first aircraft slated for delivery to ANA in the second quarter of 2017.
