The Heijō Capital Relocation 1300th Anniversary Commemorative Asia Cosmopolitan Award, which honors outstanding individuals and organizations contributing to East Asian community formation every two years, announced its three winners on October 22. From Japan, the Takarazuka Revue received the "Culture Award."
Organized by the East Asia and ASEAN Economic Research Institute (ERIA, headquartered in Jakarta), an international organization promoting East Asian economic integration, this marked the second time the awards were presented. The "Grand Prize" was awarded to former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. The "Economics and Social Sciences Award" went to Professor Emeritus Peter David Drysdale of the Australian National University and historian Wang Gunwu. The Culture Award was shared by the Takarazuka Revue and Cambodian film director Rithy Panh.
Celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, the Takarazuka Revue, as an all-female musical theater troupe where women also perform male roles, has been highly praised for its achievements in deeply exploring women's potential and providing dreams, excitement, and inspiration to many women.
The award ceremony will be held on December 21 at the "Nara Forum Commemorating the Asian Cosmopolitan Award" in Nara Prefecture.
