Dentsu Inc. Sports Asia, an overseas subsidiary of Dentsu Inc., secured exclusive broadcasting rights from the organizers—Singapore's Ministry of Community, Youth and Sports and Spectrum Worldwide (a Singaporean event management company)—to produce and globally distribute television programming for the Singapore Marathon (Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore: SCMS), Singapore's largest participatory event, for three consecutive years from 2014 to 2016.
Dentsu Inc. Sports Asia is the first agency to secure a three-year rights deal for this marathon.
Launched in 2002, the Singapore Marathon is held annually on the first Sunday of December. With 58,000 participants, it has grown into a staple event where approximately one in every 100 Singaporeans takes part. With Dentsu Sports Asia joining the production team starting this year, the number of television cameras will increase by 30% to 18 units, and innovative approaches to filming will be implemented to create a program offering viewers a multi-angle viewing experience. The program will be distributed not only to Asian but also to European television stations.
Dentsu Sports Asia will develop its business by providing concrete solutions for companies expanding into the Asia-Pacific region to conduct marketing and branding activities utilizing sports content. Regarding television program production, in addition to this Singapore Marathon, the company has experience from the "Toyota Mekong Club Championship" held in Vietnam on October 31 and November 2 this year.
