Aiming to spread Japanese content in Myanmar, the Japanese Embassy in Myanmar is holding the "Japan Film Festival 2014" in Myanmar's three major cities through December. Following the event in Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State, at the end of October, it will also be held in the two major cities of Yangon (November 21-23) and Mandalay (December 19-21).
The screenings feature the highly entertaining films "Happy Flight" (directed by Fumiyasu Yaguchi, 2008) and "Hanamizuki: May You and the One You Love Last a Hundred Years" (directed by Hiroyasu Doi, 2010, both with English subtitles), along with the animated works "The Place Promised in Our Early Days" (directed by Makoto Shinkai, 2004) and "The Garden of Words" (directed by Makoto Shinkai, 2013, both with Burmese subtitles).
The Japan Film Festival 2014 is part of the commemorative events for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Myanmar. Admission is free.
