Kochi Shimbun publishes special supplement "Kochi Family" for its 110th anniversary
On January 10th, commemorating its 110th anniversary (founded September 1904), Kochi Shimbun published a 12-page color special supplement titled "Kochi Shimbun Sharing Project" (Sponsored by Kirin Brewery, Kureha, Suntory, SKY PerfecTV! Entertainment, Seiko Watch, Sony Insurance, Mitsubishi Electric, Meiji, Yamato Transport). The print run was approximately 190,000 copies.
This initiative links with the prefecture's PR campaign "Kochi-ke," launched in 2013. Under this campaign, named to express the warm, family-like character of Kochi residents once you meet them, various information is disseminated to promote local products outside the prefecture, boost tourism, and encourage relocation. Its slogan is "We're sharing all the great things Kochi has to offer."
The Kochi Shimbun plans to further promote the campaign through collaboration with Kochike. The special edition, planned by the Tokyo branch office, is part of this effort. Beyond previous external initiatives, the goal is to foster awareness among residents and businesses that they are key players in the campaign, encouraging them to practice high-level hospitality. The publication date of January 10th was chosen to coincide with the newspaper's 110th anniversary.
Pages 1-3 feature a "Sharing Discussion" between Governor Masanao Ozaki and campaign character, actress Ryoko Hirosue. They discussed the "Sharing Project" entering its second year, covering its achievements to date, the character of Kochi residents, the culture of sharing, and future prospects. Pages 6-7 featured an article following a family considering relocation to Kochi on an inspection trip. The family thoroughly enjoyed Kochi, exploring its food, nature, and tourist attractions. Pages 8-9 feature an article on the "Parent-Child Food Education Class: Dashi Class" held on November 2 last year at the prefecture's antenna shop "Marugoto Kochi" in Ginza, Tokyo. It introduced how parents and children enjoyed learning together using the famous bonito flakes "Sodaboshi" as teaching material. Page 10 promoted the new specialty "Shamo Nabe" through a collaboration between Kirin Beer and the Kochi Shimbun.
