"Unbelievable! But it could happen." BIG lottery sales begin with a top prize of ¥1,002,015,000!
The Japan Sports Promotion Center will sell the "1 Billion Yen BIG" lottery, featuring a top prize of up to 1,020,150,000 yen, for a limited time from January 17 to 31. BIG is one of the Sports Promotion Lotteries, with a maximum first prize of 600 million yen (when a carryover occurs) in regular draws. This marks the fourth sale of the 1 Billion Yen BIG, but to commemorate the start of 2015, the first prize will be the highest ever at 1,020,150,000 yen.
On January 15, a promotional event for the sales launch was held at Bellesalle Roppongi in Minato Ward, Tokyo.
Attending the venue were actor Hidetoshi Nishijima, the new BIG commercial character, along with fellow commercial cast members Yutaka Matsushige, Tomochika, Fumi Nikaido, and Masaki Suda.
The event began with screenings of five TV commercials: the already-airing "Nishijima's Testimony" edition, plus "Matsushige's Testimony," "Tomochika's Testimony," "Nikaido's Testimony," and "Suda's Testimony," all set to air starting January 17th.
The commercials feature office worker "Goto" who apparently won 1 billion yen. His peers—Nishijima (his colleague), Matsushige (his boss), Tomochika (the regular hostess at his favorite bar), Nikaido (the receptionist at a client company), and Suda (his subordinate)—each give testimony seemingly corroborating the rumor from their respective perspectives. All five characters share the same names as the actors, creating a brilliant contrast between their serious expressions and the content of their testimonies.
Did Goto really get his hands on 1 billion yen?

On stage, the five engage in conversation. If they won 1 billion yen, they revealed varied ways to spend it—from grand dreams to practical uses: "I'd go on a space trip," "I'd bid on expensive art at auction," "I'd run a promotional car for comedy shows nationwide," "I'd pay for university tuition and travel around the world," and "I'd use it to make my favorite manga into a movie."
When asked about their usual superstitions, Matsushige-san said, "If I stumble on stage, I never wear those same underwear again." Nishijima-san replied, "I'd wear them regardless," and Tomochika-san added, "For important jobs, I make sure my underwear set matches." This unexpected underwear discussion drew laughter from the audience.
Nishijima concluded, "A wonderful commercial has been completed. I hope you'll take on big challenges and hold onto your big dreams."
