Broadcast Satellite Disney Inc. (BS Disney) launched a new app called "Dlife" (iOS/Android compatible, free) on Wednesday, January 14. This app allows users to catch up on popular overseas dramas and other programs broadcast on the nationwide free BS TV station Dlife (Channel Number: BS258) for free for one week after their initial broadcast.
The "Dlife" app is the first official app for a free BS advertising-supported channel, allowing free catch-up viewing within one week of broadcast. It can be downloaded for free via the App Store and Google Play, requiring no registration for authentication. Over 100 episodes of overseas dramas, variety shows, Korean dramas, and Dlife original content broadcast on Dlife are scheduled to be available at launch. It also plans to offer exclusive first-episode previews and full-season releases of the latest drama series from ABC, a Disney-owned television network, within the app. By downloading the "Dlife" app, users can catch up on missed drama programs for free via their smartphones or tablets within one week of the broadcast.
Dlife aims to become a "living room media" platform where viewers can catch up on missed episodes via the app and then enjoy subsequent episodes as they air. Leveraging Dlife's appeal as a free BS TV station, it will further enrich its digital content lineup. Moving forward, it will pursue a multi-platform strategy, including features linking linear broadcasts with video viewing and the launch of a TVOD (per-title VOD) service, with an eye toward introducing a paid subscription model.
