In February, an event introducing Japan from the perspective of Filipino travelers was held in Makati City, Metro Manila, drawing about 200 young people interested in Japan. Many applied through the Facebook group "EnjoyJapan.PH." This was reported by NNA, which distributes economic information in Asia.
At the event, popular Filipino fashion blogger Tricia Gosintian shared her experiences traveling in Japan. Other activities included a show inspired by Harajuku fashion and an introduction to Japanese drama programs broadcast on the cable TV channel "Jeepney TV."
Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is currently promoting the "Cool Japan" concept in six ASEAN countries through media as part of its "Model Project for Strengthening Overseas Expansion of Broadcast Content." In the Philippines, a program featuring Filipino celebrities visiting various parts of Japan aired from last November through this month. The project also involves launching a social networking site, with this event being part of those efforts.
Akiyama Dai, Desk Manager of Fuji Television's International Development Bureau Business Development Department, stated, "We created the program with mutual respect for each other's opinions alongside ABS-CBN, the commercial broadcaster we collaborated with on production. It was a great opportunity to convey the wonders of Japan to the Filipino people."
