The Hokkoku Shimbun will run a special advertising campaign titled "NEWSPAPER FES!!" in a separate insert of its May 20, 2015 morning edition.
AR markers embedded in the ad pages can be scanned using the smartphone/tablet AR app "SCAN IT!" (iOS/Android) to view live performances by various artists, with the newspaper pages serving as the live venue (available only from May 20th to 22nd). This marks the world's first initiative to use an entire newspaper supplement to host a music festival featuring multiple artists.
The project's central figure is Kanazawa-born Yasutaka Nakata, composer of the departure melody for Hokuriku Shinkansen Kanazawa Station. Produced with full cooperation from his agency Asobi System, it features eight artists from the agency—including CAPSULE, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and Natsume Mito—alongside eight models.
Nakata will provide two newly composed songs, and each artist will also perform an original live performance created specifically for this project in AR. Additionally, two special fashion shows featuring the models are planned.
The project's print edition will be distributed as an insert in the Hokkoku Shimbun newspaper. It will also be available for a limited three-day distribution and display at the " MOSHI MOSHI BOX" tourist information center in Harajuku, Tokyo, starting May 20.
