On August 3, Dentsu Inc.'s overseas headquarters, Dentsu Aegis Network, announced it had reached an agreement with shareholders of two leading Ghanaian media agencies, Adams Media Ghana Limited and Premier Media Company GH Limited, to acquire them in order to strengthen its presence in West Africa.
The acquisition will take the form of Dentsu Inc. acquiring a 59.62% stake in Adams Media, which will ultimately make Premier Media a wholly-owned subsidiary.
Following the share acquisition, Adams Media (established in 2009) will be integrated into 'Carat,' a media communications agency and one of the Dentsu Group's eight global network brands. Similarly, Premier Media (founded in 1999) will similarly be integrated into the network of the global network brand media communications agency "Vizeum." Both companies will aim to become leaders in cutting-edge media solutions. Going forward, the Dentsu Group will use "Dentsu Aegis Network Ghana" as the collective name for these two companies.
Ghana boasts the second-largest economy in West Africa after Nigeria. The IMF (International Monetary Fund) projects Ghana's GDP growth to range between 3.5% and 9.2% from 2015 through 2020.
The two companies being acquired possess capabilities in media planning and buying across mass media and digital media, and both serve a significant number of multinational corporate clients. The combined revenue share of the two companies represents a substantial presence in the Ghanaian market, positioning "Dentsu Inc. Aegis Network Ghana" to become a top-tier media agency in the industry.
Going forward, it will also collaborate with Media Fuse in Nigeria, in which it invested last August, to serve as a hub for West and Central Africa.
