The official shop for the popular anime character "Anpanman" opened in September inside a department store in Taipei City. This marks the first time an official shop has been established overseas. In Taiwan, the TV anime "Go! Anpanman" (Chinese title: 面包超人) has been broadcast since 2000 and enjoys great popularity. This was reported by NNA, which distributes economic and business information across Asia.
The first store opened on the children's clothing floor of the 4th floor at Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store's Taipei Xinyi A8 building in Taipei, Taiwan. The shop is named "Anpanman Official Shop Taipei" (Mianbao Chaoren Guan Taipei). It sells Anpanman-themed toys, T-shirts, plush toys, tableware, books, and miscellaneous goods.
Rika Kataoka, Head of the Anpanman Room at Nippon TV Music (a subsidiary of Nippon TV handling character business), stated, "We want people to discover more of Anpanman's appeal through related merchandise." The company plans to consider opening stores in other countries based on the response in Taiwan.
The newly opened official shop is supervised and overseen by three licensors: Froebel-kan (publisher of the Anpanman picture book series), animation studio TMS Entertainment, and Nippon TV. It is operated by Bandai Namco Holdings' Taiwan subsidiary, Bandai Namco Taiwan.
