Instagram, the photo-sharing site owned by Facebook, has begun serving ads in the United States.
Advertisements, including photos and videos, will be labeled "Sponsored" in the top right corner and will be shown to users who do not follow the brand. Advertisers include brands already active on Instagram, such as Adidas, Levi's, Lexus, GE, and Burberry (photo shows an example of a Levi's ad).
Facebook aims to increase its mobile advertising revenue; in the second quarter of this year, 41% of its total revenue came from mobile.
