Singapore Airlines has recreated its flagship Airbus A380 in a paper craft model at 1/50th scale.
Beyond the aircraft itself, born from over 1,000 hours of meticulous handwork, a video documenting the creation process of miniature seats across five classes—from Economy to Suites—garnered 161,000 Facebook fans and 1,300 shares within just two hours of its December 2 release. Its combined YouTube and Facebook views now reach approximately 30 million, with numerous news outlets covering the story.
The work was created by Singapore-based digital agency Dentsu Inc. Mebius. They commissioned artist Luca Iaconi-Stewart, who cut out approximately 3,000 parts from 100 sheets of yellowish manila folders and assembled them using glue. The smallest part measures 2.5mm x 1.0mm and was used for the joint in the reclining section of a business class seat. The most structurally complex seat among the five classes was the Suite Class seat, positioned above First Class, requiring a staggering 400 parts to create. The video concludes with the phrase: "IT'S THE SMALL DETAILS THAT MAKE GIANTS IN THE SKY."
