US-Origin★Real Scream Machine VR Experience: Six Flags and Samsung Collaborate

U.S. major amusement park operator Six Flags is collaborating with Samsung to offer North America's first "VR roller coaster." It is scheduled to open at a total of nine parks operated by the company from this month through summer, Ad Age reported.

The VR roller coaster involves riding the coaster while wearing Samsung's "Gear VR," co-developed with Oculus. In a futuristic world rendered in 360-degree spherical imagery, riders become jet fighter pilots battling invading aliens on Earth. The thrilling experience matches the roller coaster's realistic movements, featuring plunges from the tops of skyscrapers and attacks on enemy motherships protected by swarms of drones. Additionally, it features the world's first shooting game played while riding a roller coaster.

While no advertising has been mentioned yet, it may only be a matter of time before outdoor ads appear in VR worlds. Attention is focused on whether this could become one of the killer applications in the rapidly booming VR space, where companies and media outlets are entering one after another.
