"You've got to see it big—it'd be a waste otherwise!" An event is currently underway where you can instantly cast "Spark" and "Star Wars" using Chromecast.
From April 11th to 17th, Google is hosting an experiential exhibition titled "New Chromecast: Cast Your Experience at Shinjuku Station!" at the Metro Promenade in Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line's Shinjuku Station. Visitors can use the new Chromecast, a compact video streaming device sold by Google, to instantly watch popular titles.
Chromecast is a device with an HDMI port attached to a circular body approximately 5 centimeters in diameter. Plugging it into a TV allows users to "cast" (project) video from smartphones or computers with the dedicated app downloaded. This enables smooth viewing of dramas, YouTube videos, and other content typically watched on smartphones onto a large TV screen.
Staff at the venue will demonstrate how to use Chromecast.
This exhibition offers the experience of casting video onto large monitors set up at the venue. Sample content includes special footage from the currently popular "Spark" (based on Naoki Matayoshi's original work) and seven Star Wars series films, including the latest "The Force Awakens." Each clip is about two minutes long.
Kazuhiro Shimizu, the company's Marketing Manager, stated, "Our research into Chromecast purchase motivations showed that 'actually trying it out' or 'seeing others use it' were major factors. That's why we planned this exhibition as an opportunity for many people to experience it firsthand." He added, "We want visitors to feel how easy it is to use Chromecast to cast digital content from their smartphones to their TV, allowing them to casually enjoy big-screen viewing."
The exhibition runs from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM daily during the event period. Special stickers are also being distributed at the venue, so Google fans should definitely stop by.
