Toyota Motor Corporation aired five new TV commercials conveying the message of its "WHAT WOWS YOU." project during the first three days of 2017.
The company conducts its business activities aiming for 2020 to be the starting point for a wonderful future beyond, and launched this project based on that vision in 2016. The project focuses on three areas: "Sports," which inspires through indomitable spirit and challenge; "Society (Safety and Security)," which values caring for others; and "Technology," which brings the joy of driving to everyone.
In 2017, under the message "Tohoku: Japan's Engine," the theme of "earthquake recovery" was added. Various activities are being conducted using the song "BEAUTIFUL NAME."
In the "WOW BEAUTIFUL NAME Ichiro" edition, Ichiro looks directly into the camera while reciting the song's lyrics. Through Ichiro's gaze and words, the company conveys its stance of aiming to be a business that moves people's hearts.
In the "WOW MESSAGE Mei Ichinose" and "WOW MESSAGE Junichi Kawai" editions, two Paralympians speak candidly about their disabilities. Ichinose conveys how she views her disability as part of her individuality, while Kawai expresses his joy that the era of free mobility is approaching thanks to advances in autonomous driving technology.
In the "Traffic Safety" edition, a traffic safety instructor who has long safeguarded the safety of local children shares the fulfillment of their work and their commitment to eliminating traffic accidents.
The "Tohoku Youth" segment features young graduates who learned automobile manufacturing at the Toyota East Japan Academy, an in-house training school established by Toyota Motor East Japan in Miyagi Prefecture. They speak with smiles about their passion for mastering skills, their hopes for reconstruction, and the joy of working in their hometown.
The five commercials aired during broadcasts of the New Year's Day "New Year Ekiden" and the January 2nd-3rd "93rd Tokyo-Hakone Round-Trip University Ekiden Race," delivering the "WOW" of the new year alongside images of athletes running with single-minded dedication.
