Pancakes are all the rage these days. Hotcakes around 1955 were just as thin as today's pancakes. The flat hotcakes Showa-era mothers baked by hand were made by mixing flour with sugar and milk, then cooking them in a frying pan greased with salad oil. The arrival of new hotcake mixes transformed them into the fluffy, delicious hotcakes we know today. Many Showa-era girls were thrilled by those puffy, tempting hotcakes. Perhaps what makes girls' hearts flutter hasn't changed, even now or back in the Showa era.
(Story from a woman in her 60s, living in Tokyo at the time)
