In the 1950s, many homes had gardens. I remember gathering fallen leaves with a bamboo rake and burning them in bonfires during early winter—a scene even captured in children's songs.
Sweet potatoes roasted over the bonfire tasted absolutely divine.
Back then, bonfires were part of daily life, but now regulations have spread (some areas seem to have had restrictions since the Showa era), and it's become a hobby enjoyed only in permitted places like campgrounds.
