Tourist Map for Shibuya's Alluring Nights Complete!
The Shibuya City Tourism Association, beverage maker Ito En, and the Hoshino Seminar at Kokugakuin Universityjointly produced the" SHIBUYA Night Map ,"a tourism map focusing on Tokyo's Shibuya Ward at night.They held a completion press conference atSHIBUYACAST in the wardon June 23rd.


The Tourism Associationpromotes various spots and ways to enjoy Shibuya under the concept "PLAY! DIVERSITY SHIBUYA ." Ito En, headquartered in the ward, has hosted the "Tea-cathon" event since 2014, fostering ideas to solve local issues through tea.This event attracts a wide range of participants, from IT professionals to high school students and homemakers, and has also featured collaborations with companies, universities, and local governments.
The winning team fromthe January 2017"Chacathon," themed "Let's Create a SHIBUYA Map for Inbound Tourists!", had their idea adopted as an official project by the association. With participation from the winning members and students from Kokugakuin University located in the ward, they created a map designed to convey the area's nighttime appeal to the world.



The map aims to present music, nightclubs, bars, and other elements that have significantly influenced Shibuya's culture as tourist assets, allowing many people, including foreign visitors to Japan, to experience their appeal. Available in Japanese and English, it introduces shops and spots unique to the ward, such as those related to music, food, and sports. Distribution began the same day at locations including the Blue Frog Tourist Information Center in Hachiko Square and the Harajuku Tourist Information Center.



At the outset, Shibuya Ward Mayor Hasebe stated, "Night markets are crucial for Shibuya to mature as an international city. We have high hopes for this map as a tool enabling visitors to enjoy the city safely and securely." Tourism Association Chairman Kanayama added, "We secured cooperation from various generations to ensure unbiased information. We plan to continue updating it with new spots and more." Kenichi Sumino of Ito En, Chairman of the Chaccathon Executive Committee, explained, "Chaccathon is a portmanteau of 'tea' and 'hackathon.' As a company that values the five senses, starting with taste, we prioritize not just logic but also sensibility in Chaccathon. We believe discussions sparked by tea can make the world a little better and want to continue this modern-day tea gathering."


On stage,Shibuya Ward Night Ambassadorandhip-hopactivist Zeebra,fashion brandFIG&VIPERDirector/DJ Arisa Ueno, and Transit General Office President Sadahiro Nakamura joined for a discussion.
The six discussed Shibuya's appeal, including the growing number of foreign tourists seeking cultural experiences, its safety making it comfortable for women, and its approachable atmosphere where strangers can easily become friends. Mayor Hasebe concluded, "This map is a wonderful initiative that conveys our love for Shibuya. We aim to share this information globally."
