From Indonesia★ Supporting Halal Certification for Japanese Food through Cool Japan

The Japan Halal Food Project has launched in Japan and Indonesia.
This project, selected under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's Cool Japan Strategy Promotion Program, will support Japanese food-related companies entering the Indonesian market.

Specifically, through the Japan Asia Halal Association (a participating NPO consortium member), it will support Japanese products in obtaining certification from Indonesia's official certification body, the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). Officials note that Japan's emphasis on safety, security, and cleanliness in food manufacturing aligns with halal principles. Within two years of its establishment, the association has granted halal certification to 11 Japanese food manufacturers handling products like rice and soy sauce.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, a local-language website called "Cooking Japan" has been launched to share Japanese recipes and restaurant information. In February 2014, Japanese cooking classes for parents and children are scheduled to be held at five elementary schools in Jakarta.

From March 4 to 5, 2014, the association also plans to invite numerous influential buyers from Indonesia to Japan for business meetings with Japanese companies exploring business expansion in the region.
