A Powerful Tool for the AI & SNS Era! Docomo Announces New Services and New Devices
NTT DOCOMO held a new service and product launch event on May 16 at Bellesalle Shiodome in Chuo Ward, Tokyo.

The theme was " For All ." President Kazuhiro Yoshizawa took the stage,stating that building onlast year's theme " beyond ," the company aims to provide surprises and excitement that exceed expectations.

The eventopened with an introduction to theAI agentservice " my daiz ,"scheduled to launch on May 30. This serviceuses AI to learneach customer's behavior andcircumstances, delivering appropriate information at the right time to smartphones or tablets. Simply saying "my daiz" activates it; saying "Call me a taxi" prompts it to arrange one based on location data.Italsooffers AI-powered conveniences, likesetting an early alarm if rain is forecast during your commute. Furthermore, connecting it to a speaker at home enables conversational use. For instance, while checking the refrigerator, saying "Tell me a recipe" will display recipes on the screen, providing reliable assistance both indoors and out.


Next, President Yoshizawa introduced " TH EO + docomo ,"an investment service utilizing d points. This service was developed through a partnership with "Money Design," a company providing asset management services. Chairman Tanike of Money Design also took the stage, highlighting features like: "Answer just five questions,andit proposes the optimal plan from 231 possible investment strategies."He emphasized that the service lowers the barrier to entry compared to traditional investing, stating,"Even beginners get AI assistance based on vast data,"and"You can start with just 10,000 yen." President Yoshizawa expressed enthusiasm, saying, "Interest is growing in moving from savings to asset building, but the percentage of people investing in Japan remains low. We want to offer docomo's unique, easy-to-understand service for those interested but hesitant to try." Indeed, unique services like automatically investing your shopping change are available, making investing feel accessible even to beginners.

The new models for summer include 10 smartphones and 1 tablet. This lineup notably features devices focused on camera and audio capabilities. Among them, the" HUAWEI P20 Pro HW-01K " stands out as the world's first device with a Leica triple camera system capable of color, monochrome, and telephoto photography.Its AI automatically identifies subjects and sets the optimal mode, allowing users to capture professional-quality photos simply by pressing the shutter.The" Xperia XZ2 Premium SO-04K " features a dual camera that simultaneously captures still images while recording video, preventing missed shots and enabling beautiful photography even in low light.TheGalaxy S9 SC-02K ,designed with sound quality in mind, supports Dolby Atmos, known for its use in movie theater sound systems. It allows users to experience vibrations and other sensations, delivering powerful sound for videos, games, and music.


Othermodels include thewaterproof" arrows Be F-04K ,"which can even be washed with soap, andthe rugged" TOUGHBOOK P-01K ,"born from construction site needs andbuilt to withstand 1,000 consecutive drop tests.

Finally,actors Shinichi Tsutsumi, Mitsuki Takahata, and Go Ayano—stars of Docomo's commercials—took the stage. They experienced the newly announced services and devices firsthand.

Particularlyexciting was the demo ofthe Galaxy S9/S9 + ,which lets users easily create their own avatar from a photo and send it as a sticker. Takahata created her own avatar on the spot, energizing the venue. "It's so simple, just take a photo of your face. You can convey emotions without needing text," Takahata remarked, clearly impressed. Furthermore, recording a video allows you to create stickers with voice messages,promising to liven up social media interactions.


Regarding the new models, Tsutsumi offered a consumer's perspective: "New services keep coming out, and for an old guy like me, keeping up is a bit tough, but it's also exciting." Ayano passionately discussed the new Leica-equipped model mentioned earlier, emphasizing, "The specs are simply amazing. You can even adjust the focus on group photos after taking them, ensuring everyone's face is in focus." Staff even playfully asked him, "We'd love to have you stand in front of Docomo stores!"



Alongside various features, communication speeds have naturally increased. Entering the gigabit era,it achievesmaximum download speeds of approximately 1Gbpsandmaximum upload speeds of 75Mbps, enabling seamless sharing of photos and videos. With its focus on photos, videos, and communication,this new lineup is clearly designed for the SNS era.
