The 71st Dentsu Inc. Advertising Awards Winners Announced

― Dentsu Inc. Grand Prize: NTT DOCOMO, INC. Wins First-Ever Grand Prize ―

The winning entries for the 71st Dentsu Inc. Advertising Awards have been decided, with NTT DOCOMO, Inc. selected for the Grand Prize. This marks NTT DOCOMO's first win.

On May 25, the final selection committee meeting of the Advertising Dentsu Awards Council was held at the Imperial Hotel in Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo. The winners for the "Advertising Dentsu Award," "Activation Planning Dentsu Award," "Innovative Approach Dentsu Award," and "Advertising Dentsu Award Special Prize" across categories including newspapers, magazines, audio, film, OOH media, and digital media, as well as the The "Grand Prize" and "Excellence Awards" for each category, as well as the "Regional Advertising Awards" and "Second Place Regional Advertising Awards" for the Nagoya, Kyushu, and Hokkaido regions, were decided as listed in the attached document. Finally, the "Grand Prix Dentsu Advertising Award" was determined.

Starting this year, the categories "Radio Advertising" and "Television Advertising" were renamed to "Audio Advertising" and "Film Advertising," respectively, and the scope of eligible entries was expanded.

Eligible advertising works were those implemented between April 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018 (with "Activation Planning" starting March 1, 2017). A total of 1,448 entries were submitted to the Selection Committee, with 434 advancing to the final selection.

At the final selection meeting held in Tokyo from May 18 to 25 this year, winning entries were selected from the qualifying works. These were then presented to the final selection committee plenary meeting on May 25, resulting in the determination of all 61 winning entries.

NTT DOCOMO, which won the Grand Prize in the Dentsu Inc. Advertising Awards, was recognized for its outstanding achievements across all advertising activities. It received the Dentsu Inc. Advertising Award in the "Film" category and both the Dentsu Inc. Advertising Award and the Grand Prize in the "OOH Media" category.

Advertising Dentsu Inc. Awards in other categories were: "Newspaper Advertising Dentsu Award" to Hokuriku Shimbun Co., Ltd.; "Magazine Advertising Dentsu Award" to Ajinomoto Co., Inc.; "Audio Advertising Dentsu Award" to Dai-Nichi Jochugiku Co., Ltd.; Yahoo Japan Corporation for the Digital Media Advertising Dentsu Award, Beppu City for the Activation Planning Dentsu Award, and Basquiat Inc. for the Innovative Approach Dentsu Award. Additionally, Beppu City was selected for the Advertising Dentsu Award Special Prize, given to advertisers who produced advertising works or solutions that garnered widespread public attention and became topics of discussion.

The award ceremony will be held on July 2 at the Grand Prince Hotel New Takanawa International Hall Pamir in Minato Ward, Tokyo.

 The Advertising Dentsu Inc. Award, established in December 1947 (Showa 22), is Japan's oldest comprehensive advertising award. Operated by the public body "Advertising Dentsu Inc. Award Council," it aims to broaden the path for advertisers to solve their challenges and contribute to the development of Japan's industry, economy, and culture by honoring advertisers who have practiced outstanding advertising communication. Selection is conducted by a panel of approximately 500 judges comprising advertisers, media companies, creators, and experts from across Japan.
