On August 28, Coca-Cola Japan signed a "Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partnership Agreement" with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee, becoming the first partner under this program.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay sponsorship program consists of three tiers, with the Presenting Partner level, which the company has now secured, being the highest.
This partnership allows the company to conduct campaigns to recruit torchbearers and implement promotional activities using the torch relay emblem and other elements.
Coca-Cola is a Worldwide Partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has a 90-year history of supporting the Olympic Games.
This marks the 12th time Coca-Cola has served as the Olympic Torch Relay Presenting Partner, starting with Tokyo 2020. In past torch relays, the company recruited runners and provided support by transporting the flame alongside lead vehicles.
Even before its official involvement in the Torch Relay, during the 1964 Tokyo Games, it contributed by operating vehicles to lead and follow runners, conducting product sampling, and distributing small welcome flags along the route.
President Jorge Garduño commented, "We are delighted to be the first partner. Together with our five bottlers nationwide, we will strive to deliver the flame across the country. Moving forward, we aim to provide opportunities to participate in the Olympic Movement through the special experience of the Torch Relay and to energize the Games."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "Together with Coca-Cola, which has extensive experience as a presenting partner for many past Games, we aim to make the Torch Relay—the most important event immediately preceding the Games—a success."
