To commemorate its first anniversary of service in Japan, the short-video app TikTok held the "TikTok 1st Anniversary Event" on October 26 at Roppongi Midtown Hall in Minato Ward, Tokyo.
TikTok is the buzzworthy app that ranked number one in global iOS downloads for the first half of 2018.
The event also featured the inaugural "TikTok Creator Awards 2018," honoring users who excelled this past year. Actress Hinako Sano and comedian Hidetaka Kano appeared as presenters.

TikTok, popular mainly among young people, is an app that allows users to shoot videos to music, create and post original 15-second videos using various filters and effects. It launched in Japan in October 2017. Many influencers and celebrities use it, making it a hot topic.
The "TikTok Creator Awards 2018" held auditions in June this year to select 100 popular creators. The awards were then presented to those who stood out among them.
The awards featured six categories: "EXCELLENT CONTENT" went to five creators: Hayataku, Kigurumi Mother, Maikichi, Taro President, Shipitan.shipi, and Taakun_Sakura. "Comedy" went to Naruse, "Pet" to Kitakaze, "Duet" to Kotatsu, "Fashion" to Moritomoji, and "Dance" to Keanu.
Hayataku stated, "I'll do my best to energize TikTok as Japan's representative. I'm grateful for being invited to such a wonderful stage." Naruse, who has about 290,000 followers, expressed his joy: "When I started, I never imagined it would grow to this scale. I want to keep energizing it."
Kano, who regularly enjoys posting videos on TikTok, recalled his start: "A friend's elementary school-aged child invited me to 'make a video,' and it looked fun, so I downloaded it." He expressed his enthusiasm: "Editing is fun. It's also good practice for people who want to make movies, dramas, variety shows, or other videos. I think all kinds of things will emerge from this."
Sano described its appeal: "You can easily create cute videos, and with a little tweaking, turn them into more creative works." He enthusiastically added, "With just one smartphone, you can make a drama. Just add 'To be continued' at the end..."
