MY FUTURE CAMPUS, a career education site operated by Mynavi, held the event "180 Minutes to Change the Future: 'What is Professional Idea Generation?' - Hit-Making Creators Give Their First Lecture to High School Students" on October 27th and 28th at JR Shinjuku Miraina Tower in Tokyo and Grand Front Osaka Tower in Osaka, respectively.
This special lecture was held in preparation for the "Career Koshien 2018" business idea contest, where high school students form teams to tackle themes provided by companies. Dentsu Inc. creator Noritaka Obuse was invited as the lecturer, teaching students how to generate ideas that move people's hearts, not just random thoughts.
At the outset, Mynavi Deputy Editor-in-Chief Ryosuke Aiki stated, "I often attend events for university students, so high school students feel fresh. We host two business contests: Career Koshien for high school students and Career Incare for university students. Career Koshien has a very high level, perhaps due to the participants' flexibility of thought and absorptive capacity. Today, I hope you learn how to plan projects and generate ideas – things not often taught in school."
The first half of the lecture began with fundamental principles for generating ideas—knowledge not commonly accessible—followed by case studies from Mr. Obuse's work. Participants learned how ideas and planning can transform perceptions and discovered creative approaches based on hit products. The latter half provided a practical session where attendees applied their new knowledge to brainstorm and develop ideas based on various case studies.
Mr. Obuse presented example problems such as "What kind of gift should a father prepare for his child's first birthday?" and "With so many different coffees flooding the market today, what kind of coffee do you think will be a hit?" Participants then tackled these exercises.
The high school students were highly motivated to present their ideas, making strong, positive arguments that filled the venue with energy.
Mr. Obuse encouraged them, saying, "Your eagerness to absorb everything was truly impressive. Don't forget today's spirit. Organize what you've learned and apply it to your Career Koshien presentations," concluding the lecture.
Career Koshien 2018 is accepting pre-entries until November 30th. The deadline for document screening is December 11th, the deadline for submitting presentation videos is January 10th next year, and the final competition is scheduled for March 17th.
