Japan Post signed a contract with the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee on September 2, becoming a Supporting Partner for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay.
The sponsorship program for the Olympic Torch Relay consists of three tiers: Presenting Partners, Supporting Partners, and Associating Partners.
The Organizing Committee stated that, together with its partners, it aims to make the Torch Relay an unforgettable and special event for fans and athletes worldwide, more so than ever before.
President Masatomo Nagato announced, "Our mission is to spread the joy, excitement, and hopes for the future of the Tokyo Games from Tokyo across all of Japan. We will contribute to realizing the Olympic Torch Relay concept through our postal services, leveraging our nationwide network of post offices."
Organizing Committee Chairman Yoshiro Mori commented, "For the success of this 121-day relay journey across Japan, we expect the nationwide postal network to foster enthusiasm for the Games by connecting with as many people as possible."
The Tokyo Olympic flame will be lit from the sun's rays at Olympia, Greece, the birthplace of the ancient Olympic Games, on March 12, 2020. The flame will arrive at the Matsushima Air Self-Defense Force Base in Miyagi Prefecture on the 20th of the same month. It will then be displayed as the "Flame of Recovery" for two days each in Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima Prefectures.
It will then depart Fukushima Prefecture on the 26th and travel across Japan for 121 days, including travel days, until July 24th, the day of the Opening Ceremony.
