App Development Contest Held to Enhance the Appeal of Watching Urban Sports

The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee is hosting the "TOKYO 2020 Open Innovation Challenge," an app development contest aimed at making the urban sports viewing experience "more understandable, more enjoyable, and more exciting."
This contest, co-hosted by the Organizing Committee, Alibaba Cloud (the IOC's World Cloud Services Partner), and Intel Corporation (a Worldwide Partner), aims to foster innovation with people worldwide under the cooperation of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The urban sports targeted in the contest are the four events featured at the Tokyo Olympics: 3x3 basketball, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and sport climbing.

The application period runs until October 13. After the first screening (document review), finalists (and groups) will be selected to advance to the final judging stage. Finalists will receive technical support, including access to the Alibaba Cloud development environment and training programs for Intel's AI products.
The final judging will take place on February 22, 2020, selecting Gold, Silver, Bronze, and 2020 Special Award winners.
The initial screening will be conducted by the three organizers. For the final screening, special judges will include Mr. Tsuyoshi Natsuno, an advisor to the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Yuki Ota, Vice Chairman of the Japan Urban Sports Support Council.

Winning apps will be considered for presentation opportunities around venues during the Olympic period.
